An apprenticeship is a nationally recognised programme that combines on the job practical skills with off the job underpinning knowledge. It provides schools a unique opportunity to grow your own workforce developing the skills needed now and in the future.

What training does an apprentice receive?

Apprentices spend most of their time working with and learning from other professionals in the workplace. They also complete a relevant qualification, an award in employee rights and responsibilities alongside functional skills in maths, English and ICT. Overall the apprentice will spend 20% if their time completing off-the-job learning.

How much does an apprenticeship cost?

Before deciding to recruit an apprentice employers should consider employment and training costs. It's important to know if you are a levy or non levy paying employer and if you are a small employer, how many staff you have.

How long does an apprenticeship take to complete?

Our intermediate (Level 2) apprenticeships take between 12 and 15 months to complete, our advanced (Level 3) apprenticeships take between 18 and 24 months.

What does The Academy offer?

Whether you choose to hire an apprentice and bring fresh talent into your business or use the programme to upskill existing members of your workforce both the employer and employee will benefit from an enhanced learning experience.

From the point of advertising the vacancy to completion of the programme our experienced assessors support the apprentice with their training every step of the way and tailor individual learning plans to suit the needs of the apprentice and employer. Our learning programme is a mixture of taught and e-learning with apprentices set written tasks, research projects and being observed in workplace practice.

All apprentices are required to have a workplace mentor and free training is provided to support this valuable role.


When can I recruit an apprentice?

The initial recruitment of an apprentice is all taken care of by The Academy with successful candidates being presented to you for second interview and a work trial. For many of our programmes we operate flexible starts giving you the freedom to recruit an apprentice at a time to suit your business.
