Description

This CACHE Level 1 is an ideal way to kick start your career in early years and is suitable for learners with minimal or no experience in the field. On completion of the award you will have a basic understanding of how childcare is provided in settings.

What can I do next/once qualified?

Once you have completed your Level 1 the next step would be a Level 2 Early Years (please see this section of our website).

Course Delivery & Assessment

To successfully complete the course you'll need to attend all the taught sessions. Your tutor will set short written tasks for you to complete following each session.

Some e-learning is also set, so access to a laptop or computer is highly recommended - if you don't have your own maybe your local library can help.

Towards the end of the course you'll receive some information and advice about future training and career options.

Preparation to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children up to 7 years.

CACHE Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care.

What can I do next/once qualified?

Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce or other related Level 3 qualifications. Gain employment as an Assistant Practitioner.

NCFE/CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)

Description

This qualification gives you the knowledge and skills to become an 'Early Years Educator' allowing you to play a key role in aiding the learning and development of children aged birth to 5.

Certification

NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)

What can I do next/once qualified?

Completing the Level 3 Diploma will allow you to apply for positions in a nursery, pre-school, children's centre or school, this includes supervisory roles. In some cases you may need your maths and English GCSEs at Grade C too.

Depending on your job role, Level 3 practitioners can progress to study the Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner, the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services or a related degree.

Course Delivery & Assessment

Your assessor will induct you onto the qualification and suggest a number of courses for you to complete, these could be taught or e-learning. You'll also be set some written tasks and be observed in the workplace.

During the course of the qualification you'll be required to demonstrate competency in the following age groups

0 – 1 year, 11 months
2 – 2 years, 11 months
3 – 5 years

NCFE/CACHE Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner

Description

To complete this qualification you'll be working in a position that allows you to reflect on, and influence practice in an early years setting.

You'll need to attend a series of 5 taught sessions which will focus on each of the following topics:

  • enabling children to learn
  • promoting health and wellbeing
    special educational needs
  • working with families
  • implementing change

Throughout the qualification you will develop and use your skills in leadership, mentoring and coaching.

Certification

NCFE CACHE Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner.

What can I do next/once qualified?

On achievement of the qualification you'll be able to apply to work in a nursery, pre-school, children’s centre or school to include supervisory roles or specialist roles.

If you wish to go on to further study you could undertake the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services or a related degree.

By completing two mandatory and one optional unit, you will develop the knowledge and skills needed to:
• Understand the importance of speech, language and communication
• Identify the signs of those who are experiencing difficulties
• Promote speech, language and communication development
• Explore ways to support children and young people who have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)

What can I do next/once qualified?

All learners:

Practitioners who hold a full and relevant Level 3 Diploma:

Course Delivery & Assessment

You will be supported by an assessor to improve quality within your workplace and demonstrate this within your portfolio. This will include keeping reflective logs, writing case studies and professional discussions.

If you prefer e-learning, the e-platform, delivered in partnership with The Communication Trust using ‘Platform3: Study, Learn and Qualify’. It allows you to study online with access to a range of electronic materials and activities.


If you prefer classroom based learning, you can choose to attend the Talk for All course, which is delivered over two days by a speech and language therapist.
